ClassicBond® roofing systems are the perfect solution for your garage, shed or flat roof repair. The fully adhered application allows for installation on any roof slope. The environmentally friendly system is manufactured by Carlisle-Syntec, who pioneered EPDM roofing systems in the 1960s.
Specification
The rubber roof EPDM membrane is sold by the running metre from large pre-joined sheets starting at 0.5m in width and increasing in 0.5m increments up to 30.5 metres in length, by 15.25 metres in width. This means no on-site joining is required as long as the roof does not exceed these measurements and makes the ClassicBond EPDM the best for quick and easy installation.
ClassicBond EPDM is available in two thicknesses:
-
1.2mm (standard)
-
1.52mm (commercial)
Why Choose ClassicBond® EPDM?
The ClassicBond roof system is designed to be cost effective and far easier to install than traditional DIY flat roof systems, saving you both time and money. For most applications the membrane is cut to the size of your roof and supplied as a single piece, finished with the correct drip, kerb edge and wall up-stand trims. The membrane has excellent resistance to extreme temperatures, UV and aging, and can be installed without the use of heat or flames.
BBA Certified and preferred by roofing professionals, ClassicBond is tangibly more pliable, slate grey in colour and is the ideal EPDM rubber roof covering for both large and small flat roofs.
With maintenance free properties the EPDM membrane is strong yet lightweight and is not affected by extreme temperatures. Within the temperature range of -40ºC to +120ºC the membrane will not crack, peel or split.

Which Thickness of rubber roofing membrane should I buy? (1.2mm or 1.5mm)
Both the 1.2mm and 1.5mm EPDM rubber membranes are perfect for residential and commercial projects alike. 1.2mm membrane is a trusted product by our roofing customers and our most popular item for a good reason. 1.5mm membrane tends to lay a little easier due to the thickness and can also provide a smoother looking finished flat roof. We would recommend 1.5mm if there is going to be anything overlayed on top of the rubber like decking, screed and tiles or even a green roof.
How can I tell which way up the membrane is supposed to be?
Whilst EPDM rubber membrane has no right side up, you will notice only one side has writing on it, this is from the manufacturer and has some information about the rubber. You can lay this side down to the decking for a cleaner looking finish, this can be useful if the roof can be seen from a window for example.
Are The EPDM Membranes Guaranteed?
ClassicBond®, ClassicBond Pro™ and RESITRIX® all have a life expectancy of 50 years. However, if you have attended our training course we are able to offer a 20-year EPDM guarantee.
Applying for an EPDM guarantee is quick and easy, simply email us a photo of your completed roof along with your order number and the guarantee will be issued directly to you or your customer.

Why Have Bubbles Appeared On The Edge Of My Newly Laid EPDM Rubber Roof?
Occasionally, bubbles and blisters can appear around the perimeter of the EPDM rubber roof just after it's been fitted. There are a few reasons why this can happen, the Contact Adhesive could have been applied too thick, or if it has not been allowed enough time to properly tack-off. Luckily, we can share a few tips to help avoid this potential problem, check our video for an in-depth explanation.
Can EPDM Withstand Hard Impacts From Outside Conditions? Such As Branches Falling On It Or A Bird Pecking On It?
Along with a life expectancy of 50 years and beyond, EPDM rubber can stand up to quite some force from outside elements, in our video below we explore what different objects falling on the rubber will do to it and how much damage it takes to actually penetrate the membrane! Prepare to be surprised!
My roof has a small hole which is causing a leak, how easy is it to repair this?
One of the most evident benefits of EPDM rubber roofing is that it can be repaired very quickly and easily, allowing you to catch a problem before it turns into something much bigger! Supplied as a 6 inch strip, any small hole or rip can be sealed effectively with our repair patch kits. This easy-to-use patch, primer and brush combination will ensure you can safely patch any minor damage to the roof.
Does It Have To Be Dry For EPDM Roofing To Be Laid?
EPDM membranes require the substrate to be dry prior to installation so that the adhesive & primers can effectively bond the rubber to the roof deck. EPDM products will not adhere to wet or damp surfaces. It is important to bear in mind that trapped moisture within the deck may vaporise and negatively affect the performance of the membrane.
If you would like more tips on when to install your EPDM roofing, check out the video below.
Is there a right side up when installing ClassicBond EPDM membranes?
Classicbond EPDM membranes are identical on both sides so there is no right or wrong side when installing this product. It is important to bear in mind that sometimes there may be a small amount of manufacturer writing printed on one side of the rubber membrane; if this is the case we recommend installing this side down onto the deck so that the clear side is only visible.
Will my EPDM membrane have a join?
All membranes do have manufactures joins as supplied to us. Depending on the spacing of the joins and the size of the piece being cut off the roll, sometimes there is no manufacturers join in the membrane.
All EPDM membranes, whether it is Firestone, ClassicBond or SKYGUARD have these joins and they are unavoidable. However, the big advantage is that it is supplied to you in one piece as our website states, which means you don't have to do any onsite joins where workmanship could be a factor.
What is the Life Expectancy of EPDM Rubber Roofs?
EPDM Rubber roofs have a 50 year life expectancy.
EPDM has been in commercial use since the 1960s. And many of those roofs are still around today.
How Thick are ClassicBond Roofing Membranes?
ClassicBond Roof membranes are available in two thicknesses. The Standard membrane is 1.2mm thick and the Premium membrane is 1.5mm
Can a ClassicBond EPDM Rubber Membrane be laid over an existing roof covering?
EPDM membranes can be installed onto a variety of surfaces. For best results, we recommend that the membrane be laid onto new Timber sheets (OSB3). This fresh new deck can, however, be laid straight over your existing roof covering without the need to strip the old roof.
Is Classicbond EPDM BBA Certified?
Yes. ClassicBond EPDM holds the British Board of Agrément certificate, No. 11/4853, issued to Flex-R Ltd. The BBA carries out assessment, testing, approval and certification of products and systems for the construction industry against national requirements, internationally recognised standards or other relevant technical specifications, reviewed and reissued every 3 years.
Fire Ratings
The ClassicBond system is also fire rated, the 1.2mm EPDM has a fire rating of EXT.F.AB and the 1.5mm EPDM membrane is fire rated to EXT.F.AA. Fire rating is carried out on a variety of deck surfaces and it is important to seek the certificate that relates most accurately to your roof structure.
What Temperatures Can A Rubber Roof Be Installed In?
We recommend a minimum temperature of 5°C for EPDM installation. This is due to the WBA adhesive being water-based and lower temperatures may cause the adhesive to freeze over and fail.
