Is the ClassicBond membrane available in different colours?
No, the ClassicBond EPDM membrane is only available in a slate grey colour. That said, the manufacturer will often apply a dusting or talc to the membrane during the manufacturing process. This will have the effect of making the membrane appear lighter, more of a light grey. You will also note from the images below that the membrane will appear darker when wet, such as after rain.

Can I install Tiles or Slabs onto an EPDM rubber roof?
It is important before you consider applying concrete slabs or ceramic and decorative tiles to check how much weight your roof can withstand. When working out the weight of using these products over your EPDM rubber membrane, you must allow for not only the weight of the slabs or tiles, but also the weight of the materials required to install the products (e.g screed).
Option 1: Concrete Slabs
If you would like to install concrete slabs over your EPDM rubber membrane, you must use paving slab supports underneath the concrete slabs. The slab supports must be 15mm high circular plastic discs that support the corners of 4 slabs. When installing the slab supports, ensure they are installed in a standard checkerboard pattern. It is important to bear in mind that water will pass through the gaps in slabs, so always ensure that sufficient trims are installed around the perimeter of the roof so that the water can run into the gutter.
Option 2: Ceramic Or Decorative Tiles
If you would like to install ceramic or decorative tiles, you must first install a fleeced underlay over the EPDM rubber membrane to ensure that it is protected from any sharp objects.
Some EPDM rubber membranes such as Resitrix and ClassicBond Pro already have fleeced underlay incorporated within the membrane. If you have decided to use a rubber membrane that already has fleeced underlay within the membrane, there is no need to install more once the membrane has been installed.
Apply a layer of cement screed on top of your fleeced underlay (or fleeced underlay rubber membrane), ensuring that the screed is a minimum of 70mm thick. Once the screed is fully set, you can then install and grout your ceramic or decorative tiles straight over the screed.

Is the RESITRIX membrane available in different colours?
Yes. The Resitrix System is available in the original Black as both a full bond (SKW) and partial bond SK-P and also in the new grey full bond SR. The grey RESITRIX SR membrane does have better solar reflective properties but is otherwise the same membrane under the skin.
Can I install a cement screed on top of EPDM rubber membranes?
Yes! EPDM is not affected by cement or lime mortar, unlike TPO and plastic single-ply membranes. Geotextile Matting is often layed over the top of the EPDM to give it added protection from sharps in the screed.
EPDM Membranes are often used as a waterproof barrier underneath exposed cement screeds as they offer a tougher alternative to a traditional Visqueen membrane which can be easily damaged by the aggregate in cementitious concretes and screeds. These applications include balconies, terraces and block and beam or reinforced concrete roof decks over underground structures.
Whilst EPDM roofing membranes offer an attractive waterproof finish to roofs, they are only designed to withstand foot traffic and therefore are unsuitable to take point loads which can damage the membrane. If the roof deck is to be used as a balcony for garden furniture and garden planters etc, then a tougher finished surface is required. The addition of a cement screed over the EPDM membrane will protect and provide a tough wear-resistant surface that can then be finished off with decorative tiles or fully bonded promenade tiles.

Is Classicbond EPDM BBA Certified?
Yes. ClassicBond EPDM holds the British Board of Agrément certificate, No. 11/4853, issued to Flex-R Ltd. The BBA carries out assessment, testing, approval and certification of products and systems for the construction industry against national requirements, internationally recognised standards or other relevant technical specifications, reviewed and reissued every 3 years.
Fire Ratings
The ClassicBond system is also fire rated, the 1.2mm EPDM has a fire rating of EXT.F.AB and the 1.5mm EPDM membrane is fire rated to EXT.F.AA. Fire rating is carried out on a variety of deck surfaces and it is important to seek the certificate that relates most accurately to your roof structure.
