We’re excited to announce that Optagon Group, the parent company of Rubber4Roofs, is now majority owned by its employees! 

What Has Happened?

Rubber4Roofs is embracing a transformative change that will not only redefine our workplace but also enhance how we serve you.

We’re excited to announce our transition to the Employee-Owned Trust (EOT) model - an achievement that puts our employees at the heart of our success while enhancing the value we provide you.

This is a significant shift made by the Company Owner, Tom Cullingford, who started Rubber4Roofs as a family business in 2010. Now, the company is majority-owned by its 50-strong workforce under the EOT model! Tom will continue as Managing Director helping to create a strong vision for the future of the business. 

What is an EOT Model?

An Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) is a government initiative introduced in 2014 that allows organisations to be majority-owned by their employees. An EOT is a trust that acquires the majority stake in a business and manages it on behalf of the company’s employees for the benefit of its employees.

As part of an exit or succession planning strategy, the trust becomes the company's primary shareholder. So, the EOT model is ideal for an existing shareholder who wishes to pass on the management and ownership of the company to its current workforce.

Why Are We Doing This?

Tom Cullingford decided this was the best way to recognise the hard work and major contributions employees have made to the growth of our business, with 2023 being one of the most successful years for the company. 

Earlier this year, a significant organisation approached us with an offer to purchase Rubber4Roofs. However, Tom turned the offer down as he wanted the future of Rubber4Roofs and the Optagon Group to be in its own hands.

This sparked the notion of wanting the existing employees to benefit more from the successes at Rubber4Roofs as it continues to grow, creating an environment where all employees get to be more involved in deciding how the company runs.

This will only positively affect the company, benefiting our employees, customers and supply partners.
