Long Lasting Flat Roof Materials

Are You Looking For Long-Lasting Flat Roofing Materials?...

EPDM is the answer.

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a flat roofing material that is designed to be able to work in the most extreme conditions that a flat roof will face.

Not only is this product reliable and durable, it is also very flexible, making it a great option for complicated shaped roofs. EPDM is designed to be able to withstand all kinds of weather conditions, including extreme weather cycles and changing climates. Many flat roof materials can't able to cope with the acids that are found in rainwater and the constant exposure to direct UV, meaning the roof will need replacing regularly. Rain and exposure to direct UV do not affect the integrity of EPDM, making this product a great durable flat roofing option.

How Is EPDM Different To Other Roofing Materials?

One key difference between EPDM and other roofing materials such as shingle roofs and concrete roof tiles is the installation methods.

Shingle roofs and concrete roof tiles are designed to be installed on pitched roofs; installing these products consists of overlapping the materials to allow the rainwater to run off the roof. Although these products are a good option for pitched roofs neither are suitable for flat roofs as there is no pitch to aid water in escaping. Typically when these materials are used on flat roofs the rainwater will collect on the roof’s surface; with time this water will work its way beneath the surface and will lead to the substrate rotting with the high possibility of a leak occurring.

EPDM is different and is specifically designed as a flat roof material. This product is installed in one piece with no overlapping; this means that rainwater will not be able to get beneath its surface. EPDM will also repel all moisture and “breathes”, allowing vapours to escape, thus preventing blisters. It is also highly resistant to UV (Ultraviolet light) and IR (Infrared light) and does not suffer from typical ageing signs such as cracking or grazing.

A Roofing Material With a Life Expectancy of Over 50 Years...

At Rubber4Roofs, we believe it is important to provide our customers with high-quality products that will withstand the test of time. All of our EPDM flat roofing systems have a life expectancy of over 50 years. The first EPDM roof was laid in the 1960s in the USA by Carlisle Syntec; the original EPDM roofing installations are still protecting the roofs today. Since the first EPDM roof was laid, many internationally recognised companies have chosen EPDM flat roofing materials for their buildings. These companies include Honda, Microsoft, Staples and Barclaycard. In addition to this, the Playhouse Theatre in London has a roof with an EPDM covering, as do many schools, shopping centres, railway stations, and hospitals; proving this product is a great match for both commercial and residential properties across the globe. In fact, over 1 billion square metres of material have been installed worldwide!

Did You Know EPDM Can Be Recycled?

Not only does this product have great durability qualities it is also cost-effective yet environmentally friendly. Something that is unique to EPDM is the fact that it can be recycled. Once EPDM rubber roofing reaches the end of its life it can then be recycled to make rubber mats which are perfect for children's playgrounds. It can also be recycled and then used as fuel which is a great option to help reduce our dependency on fossil fuels.
